Why use Crystal
Crystal is known for it’s brilliance and sparkle. It reflects light in such a way that it almost appears to be alive within the movement of light, thus creating that clear ‘sparkle’. For example, wine drank from a crystal glass will be seen in its truer colour instead of displaying that slight blue tint normal glass contains. In comparison to ordinary glass, crystal’s molecular combination appears rougher than glass on a microscopic level and thus allowing wine in the glass to breathe more effectively when swirled in the bowl, hence providing the richer aroma.
As to the previously misconceived idea that crystal has an enormously high lead content responsi- ble for that ‘sparkle’, the real reason for crystal’s aesthetic brilliance is due to the use of crystal-line sand instead of soda-line sand, used in the production of ordinary glass. Technology nowadays allows for products to be more environment friendly, therefore the percentage of lead that was present in crystal has been completely removed and titanium has been added. Crystal glassware is now eco friendly, it is chip, abrasion and shatter resistant, it has a more brilliant shine and is tougher and more durable than ever before.
Taking Care of Crystal
Crystal glassware can be washed both by hand and dishwasher.
For handwash add dishwashing liquid to warm water. Always ensure that the rinse and wash water are the same temperature. After cleaning, place glasses upside down on a towel for air drying.
When washing your crystalware always hold the glass by the bowl and never by the stem and do not twist the bowl and the stem in opposite directions when washing or drying. For tough dirt, soak the glassware in water with a squirt of dishwashing liquid and 1/2 teaspoon of fabric softner and leave overnight.
Avoid streaking by adding 1 tablespoon of vinegar or isopropl (rubbing) alcohol to the rinse water.
For extra shine steam over boiling water and polish with a microfibre cloth.
Your Crystal will then be perfect for that well deserved glass of delight .
